Questions or Feedback?In the —21 Calendar, high school finals and end of the semester will take place before Winter Break. In order to accommodate this change, the first day of school for grades 1—12 will move up two days to Monday, August 17 and Tuesday, August 18 for grades EC and K. Inthe Board began a new process of posting and subsequently adopting a 2-year calendar.

A Calendar Committee, comprised of teachers and support staff from elementary, middle and high schools, along with several District office administrators, gathered feedback from parents, staff and this year, from high school students. Feedback indicated a desire to move high school finals and the end of 1st semester before Winter Break. A significant amount of work will need to take place for this transition, which is why the Calendar Committee and Board determined adding transition time is important.

Curriculum and assessments and winter events at all levels will need to be adjusted to account for the shortened 1st semester and other date changes like start date and Institute Days. The State of Illinois has specific requirements for the school calendar. The calendar is to include days with a minimum of days of actual student attendance.

Definition of Calendar Terms. Students do not attend school on these days. Institute Days are reserved to prepare for the opening of school or to provide training for teachers and staff. Emergency Days — The state requires that five Emergency Days be included in the calendar at the end of the school year.

For this reason, twice a week, the CUSD website will provide tips for taking care of your social and emotional wellness.

We need each adult to be physically, socially, and emotionally well so you can be your best for our young people. The lyrics present such great advice, for human touch is vital to social and emotional wellness. That is why social distancing is proving to be so difficult in this time of Coronavirus. By nature, most humans long for connection … to be touched, whether it is a handshake or a hug.

So how can we fulfill this desire during this time to keep us socially connected and emotionally well? Below are some suggestions for reaching out without touching, as many of us may be feeling the need to connect or re-connect even stronger than before. Keep in mind that while we usually think of touch as physical, right now, any action that helps us lift the spirit and preserve hope counts as touch.
